Patient Safety First

Our anaesthetists focus on the safety practiced at Silkwood Medical.
DR. ROSS FOREMAN: My role is an anaethetist involves looking after people both before, during, and after their anesthetic. So initially preparation involves taking history from the patient, addressing any specific concerns and questions I might have about the anesthetic process itself. And also given them a brief rundown, essentially on what, what will happen to them during their anesthetic and after their antistatic, what to expect.
Anesthesia is not without it’s risk. However, in this country it’s one of the safest places in the world to have an anesthetic. We have extremely good training of anaethetist. Our anaethetist are highly trained doctors who have not only the required tury [phonetic] educations, but also specialist training which is anywhere between five and seven years depending on what areas they advanced specialized in. And on top of the advances in technology allow for better drugs and also for better monitoring.
Basically the whole, the whole sort of reason for having sort of high grade, highly qualified specialist anesthetists to give patients the best possible and the most safe anesthetic that you can. because a safe anesthetic ultimately means that you’ve taken care of all the other details as well so patients wake up the way you want them to wake up so that they’ll be warm, not nauseated, pain free, and also, therefore, not in danger of having a complication. So it’s, it’s in everybody’s interest to make sure that everybody has the safest possible anesthetic.
DR. ANDREW PEMBROKE: When doing, you know, a complicated procedure it’s important that you get everything correct from, from A to Z. And that involves the personnel and the theater which you perform and that - - . Not only just the theater itself, but the staff that we work with. It’s important that we work with nurses and allied medical professionals, that they’re all adequately trained.
I mean people take anesthesia for granted. And I think because we do it so well. And part of that is the preparation that we talked about, simple things like having adequate lighting, adequate suction, having the right equipment, having the right drugs.
With Silkwood Medical they leave nothing to chance. Every I is dotted. Every T is crossed. There is no constraint in terms of equipment, personnel, medications. And, and they often are in a private hospital enterprise. At Silkwood Medical nothing’s left to chance.
